JOY’S BEES KNEES
Meet Joy. Dedicated soap labeler and bartender extraordinaire. Her Bees Knees is too good not to share, and is made with one of our favorite herbs – lavender!
Joy moved to Kansas City from Miami about 3 1/2 years ago. When not working she loves to practice yoga. She must stand on her head at least once a day or else she finds herself in a funk. She’s also been completely fascinated with the whole craft bartending thing. She’s consistently reading up on how spirits are made and experimenting at home.
On Joy’s iPod: It’s all over the place. It’s pretty saturated with jazz though. Currently listening to Saxophone Colossus by Sonny Rollins.
Words of wisdom: At the risk of sounding embarrassingly cliché, “You can only lose what you cling to.” has kinda been my mantra lately.
Dream dinner guests: Stephen Hawking. He’s probably one of the most fascinating human beings I’ve ever known of. I’d also invite Miles Davis, but I doubt he’d show up.
Here’s the recipe we promised!
Joy’s Bees Knees:
- 2 oz. of Kansas City’s Rieger Gin
- 3/4 oz. of fresh lemon juice
- 3/4 oz. honey simple syrup*
- pinch of fresh lavender or lavender bitters
Shake with ice, strain, and serve up with a twist of lemon!
*To make honey lavender simple syrup: Bring two cups of water + 3 tablespoons of dried lavender to a boil and then simmer for ten minutes. Stir in one cup of honey and let cool!
