Indigo Wild's Rescue Dogs!

Here at Indigo Wild, we love dogs of all shapes and sizes. Rescue dogs have a special place in our hearts, and we're honored to work with a fantastic rescue organization - Kansas City Sheltie Rescue. This rescue does so much for the pups in our area, and many of our beloved dogs have come from these fine rescuers. To find out more about their work, click here. Read on for stories of our awesome foster dogs!

Also, the Kansas City Sheltie Rescue Raffle was a great success. Meet the winner of the Indigo Wild gift basket - David Hinchman!

Gracie

Our sweet little Gracie has been adopted! She was the goofiest sheltie any of us had ever met. Gracie came into Kansas City Sheltie Rescue after she was no longer wanted by a breeder of show dogs. Lucky her! Gracie was timid and unsure about everyone and everything when she first came to Indigo Wild as our foster. But it was extremely rewarding to see this little girl start to come out of her shell. We quickly learned Gracie had an outgoing, rambunctious side to her…she loved to chase after us and nip at our heels (a typical sheltie herding behavior)! After a couple weeks, she even started to play with the other pups around the building.

We definitely knew Gracie would make a great family pet…sweet, loving, playful and smart! So when a family who recently adopted another sheltie from Kansas City Sheltie Rescue expressed an interest in Gracie, we were very excited to meet them! Sure enough it was the perfect fit. Their 8 year old daughter and 16 year old son were so excited to meet Gracie. The family brought their older sheltie Ozzie and their newly adopted sheltie Faith to meet her…and voila Gracie was a part of their family! It turns out Faith and Gracie came from the same place and are now reunited!

Gracie’s new family has already sent updates about how well she is adjusting to her new life. We couldn’t be any happier to know sweet little Gracie has found a home with an amazing, sheltie-loving family!

Alabama

Alabama – he came to Indigo Wild after he was found roaming the streets. He was the cutest sable and white sheltie that any of us had ever seen (Lola, one of the five other shelties here is by far the prettiest). Alabama a.k.a. Bama Rama, had such a fun loving, charismatic attitude. He could be found chasing his friend Bishop all around the juju factory for hours and hours. It was exhausting just watching the two of them…we all wished that we had half their puppy energy! Just like our beloved Montana, Alabama (see any theme going on here?) loved to snuggle and give lots of love.

When his adoptive family came all the way from Wichita, KS to pick him up, it was crazy how he immediately understood and eagerly accepted them. To see him go up to their 3 month old baby and give him gentle kisses just melted our hearts. The family was so happy to be adding another little boy to their family.

The last we heard was that Alabama is now doing fly ball competitions with his new dad. How cool is that!? We wish Alabama and his new family the best of luck!

Montana's Story

Indigo Wild is proud to announce that Montana (Emily's & Todd's foster dog) has been adopted by a wonderful lady, Pam, and her sheltie puppy, Maggie!
After Montana's owner was a victim of a random drive by shooting, he was taken from his home and placed in a shelter. The future didn't look bright for Montana and his days at the shelter were numbered because he has a condition that causes seizures. When Emily heard that LL Dog Rescue needed a foster home for Montana, without hesitation she opened the doors to Indigo Wild (she has 4 rescued shelties of her own) and took on the task of fostering a dog with special needs. Montana, a.k.a. Moony, Mr. Moony, Moon-Tuna and Moon Boon, was one of the most loving and charismatic dogs that any of us have ever met! After a few weeks of running around the juju factory with all the other dogs (especially his best friend Bishop), it was quite apparent that he was a special little boy and that he was very happy to be here. Moon-Tuna was such a character and loved to entertain. He would run around with toys in his mouth, play tug of war and find random things to chew on. We even caught him standing on top of a table over a bowl of candy with just a wrapper in his mouth! He played hard but also had a very sweet, loving side to him; his favorite thing was to give kisses and snuggle. There are so many great memories about the time Montana was here at Indigo Wild we could go on forever!

When Montana's new mom came to adopt him a few weeks ago, it was absolutely amazing to see how excited she was to be taking him home with her to Oklahoma. Since then she has been in touch and says that Mr. Moony is doing just fabulous! It was definitely hard to say goodbye to such an incredible and resilient little boy but we could not be more thrilled for him and his new family. It feels great to know that Montana is safe, loved, and happy!

Kaycee

Indigo Wild is happy to have adopted out another foster dog!
Kaycee (short for Kansas City) was found roaming the streets of Kansas City, KS when he was taken to a near by animal shelter and later brought to us by LL Dog Rescue. When he first came to Indigo Wild he was very distraught and wouldn't even eat dog treats because he was so stressed out. Even though Kaycee wasn't as rambunctious as our previous foster dogs, immediately we could tell he was a sweet boy and just needed a little time to show his true colors. Slowly but surely Kaycee's personality started to shine and eventually he began to run around the juju factory and play with all the other dogs. His favorite thing to do was hang out with his friend Bishop. It was the cutest thing to watch Bishop take Kaycee for walks… Bishop would literally take Kaycee's leash in his mouth and walk him around the building! He had such a fun, bright personality but also had a very calm and relaxing demeanor at the same time…he was great to have around!

Kaycee's stay with us was short but definitely sweet! We were so excited when a family of five contacted us to adopt him. He definitely needed a family that could keep up with his playful spirit and after meeting them it was clear they were the perfect match! The family's three year old son was more than happy to play fetch with his new doggie and the little girls were already taking him for walks around the building and feeding him treats. We hear that Kaycee is doing great with his new family and we couldn't be more excited for them!

Tucker

Words can’t describe how special this little guy was to everyone here at Indigo Wild.  If it wasn’t for our passion to help as many dogs as possible…we would have kept him!

He was just like a baby…absolutely loved to be picked up and held.  He used to sit in Emily’s lap while she worked at her desk and would nap there all day if he could.
He had such a funny, spunky side to him along with his sweet and cuddly side.  We often referred to him as the perfect little sheltie boy!

Tucker thrived off love and attention so it was clear to us from the beginning that he needed to find a family who could spend time with him and who was willing to work on his hang ups.

We finally found the perfect family for little Tucker! Nancy and Wendell came to us looking for a dog to help their sheltie Rio get over mourning the loss of their other sheltie Charlie who had recently passed away.  After meeting Tucker they thought he would be a great fit for their family!

We have received many letters from Tucker’s new family telling us how happy they are to have him in their lives!  All of us here at Indigo Wild can’t thank them enough for giving Tucker all the love and attention he needs…and more! Here are a few we wanted to share with you…

I wanted to drop you a quick note about little Tucker.  He is doing great!    He really seems to be at home here now, and I think he is very happy.  He has gained much trust in us.  Tucker is sometimes still a little fireball, spinning in circles when he gets excited and barking more than he should.   On that front, he needs more direction, but we continue to work with him and to see improvement.  He has not been able to go to training the last two weeks due to the weather and the holiday so we are looking forward to more teacher-lead training this weekend.  He definitely does best when he has plenty of exercise and play time. Tucker and Rio continue to have great fun together.  He also has fun running along our side of the fence with a little neighbor's poodle on the other side.   And, he is fascinated by every rabbit and squirrel he sees.

I am terrible about taking pictures, but I will try to send a few in the next week so you can see him.  He looks a little different.  I think he might be a little heavier, but more important Tucker seems to have quite a bit more hair.  I am not sure why.  Maybe it is more brushing now that he lets us do so or a change in food or maybe even the one small "Omega" salmon, cod and sweet potato treat the dogs get each day!   It is a mystery.

We continue to know how lucky Tucker was to have spent time with you and Todd.  It is much to your credit that Tucker is the loving dog he is.

Wendell and Nancy

Hi Emily!

I was just sitting down to send you a note, and there was you note from you!  I wanted to tell you how proud we are of Tucker!  He is learning so quickly and it a star in his training class.  He has made GREAT progress with the come command.  Wendell has developed a technique for dealing with his brushing issues, and he is getting better each day.  His trust is increasing.  It touches my heart every time I see Tucker and Rio chasing each other around our yard which they do often.  I really do feel like we were able to save two dogs --  a sad Rio after losing Charlie and Tucker who was looking for his new family.  We love him so much.  I think Rio sees him as a friend more and more each day too.  Rio is often the one appearing with a squeaking toy to begin the fun.  Tucker is most often the one beginning the chase game in the yard. As for the barking -- Yes, it is improving.  He still barks when we leave and is inclined to bark when any door is opened, but he is more able to turn it off when corrected.    He is a smart dog and want to learn and to please us so I think he will continue to improve.

Thanks so much again for allowing us to have Tucker in our home and our life.    I know you must miss him because he is so quick to bring fun and life to every room he enters.  We will kiss him twice for you!  Thanks again, and we hope you are getting well!  We will send a note again soon about Mr. Tucker!
